Haihaisoft Universal Player knows to play EVERYTHING and it does that VERY GOOD Wink

It's a clone of WMP 11 by it's appearance but it comes with all codecs inside and it's absolutely FREE. It knows how to cope with mkv, ts, m2ts, flac, ape... just to name a few. It can be customized by your needs and you'll be impressed by all the options Wink

In the interest of science and for those of you who haven't figured out that you can answer questions yourself by trying it... I downloaded it.

1. mkv playback is acceptable.
2. m2ts playback is fine as long as you can lip-read. I have some mt2s files with DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD audio streams and no matter what I did in terms of selecting different filters, I couldn't get an audio output.
3. It doesn't play HD-DVD .evo files.
4. It doesn't read BluRay BDMV folders.
5. It won't play a BluRay .iso

Bottom line is: It doesn't play everything and what it does play, it doesn't play any better than the player you already have. More tellingly, from a Home Theater PC that should be kept clean, point of view, the software installs a HUGE amount of pointless codecs, that just bloats your system.

In my opinion, if you have a player that you're happy with, stick with it. This player will do nothing additional for you and installs bloatware.

Thanks for the "mini-review" of this software - I haven't downloaded it yet, but when I saw this thread, I thought it is too good to be true.

BTW, what do you think is the best software player for HDDVD .evo and BDMV Bluray?
I use arcsoft totalmedia theatre and  then  mediaplayer classic/KMplayer for the  rest (mkv etc.)
